To wrap things up this year we will be putting together a middle school resume to put our hard work over the years into perspective. For part one please list your accomplishments in a word document. The list can include :
Classes taken Grades Elective Classes Awards School Clubs Sports inside and outside of school Youth Groups/Volunteer activities Activities outside of school Skills you have learned inside and outside of school Goals you have set and achieved Goals you are working towards Any other relevant information you are proud of or anything you think might set you a part from your classmates Project -Research 10 companies of interest that will assist you in pursuing your Career Pathway. This can also mean different organizations you would like to be a part of as well, if you are considering a career path in athletics.
Activity- Using an Internet browser, use the search terms to assist you in researching and locating 10 companies of interest. Create a presentation. Slide 1: Introduce yourself and your Career Pathway Slide 2: Rank the 10 companies in order from most desirable to least. Slides 3-12: Write a brief description about each company you would choose to work for and explain the Career Pathway you wish to pursue. Slide 13: Reflection Slide 14: Resources Now that we have completed the power points on a career of our choice, and a college pathway it is time to see all the different possibilities out there. With a partner please use printer paper to create a Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting the careers each of you chose.
Be sure to include the information from the PowerPoints you created. A. Career B. Nature of the Work C. Working Conditions D. Educational Requirements E. Training and Other Qualifications F. Experience/Required Skills G. Salary/Income H. Job Market Outlook – Is this a career field with good future job prospects? I. Upside – What are the benefits of working in this career field? J. Downside – What are the detriments to this career? K. Related Occupation(s) Please answer the following multiple choice questions and turn them in to the front table when you are done!
Research and create a presentation about a college or university of interests that will assist you with pursuing your Career Pathway.
You will research the college or university of your choice and produce a presentation. 1. Select a college or university that interests you. 2. Locate the website (URL) for that college or university. 3. Include the following in your presentation (you will find all of this information on the website): A. Name of the College or University B. Location (City and State) C. School banner, logo, or mascot D. School colors E. Map of the campus if available F. Photos of campus G. Estimated cost of attending one full year (this should include tuition, fees, housing, and meals) H. Number of students currently enrolled (can be an estimate) I. Degree of the most interest to you and why J. Important dates such as application deadlines and scholarship deadlines K. Cite all of your sources in the footnote of each slide Activity 2 - Career Pathway Research Presentation
Project: Research and create a presentation about a career that you are interested in pursuing after graduation. Activity: Research the career on the Internet and find the following information: A. K. Related Occupation(s) L. Conclusion Compile your research into a PowerPoint presentation. Use at least one slide per subject. Now that we have thought about a single career that we are each interested in I would like for the class to take a short assessment that will provide a list of careers and information relevant to the students interests. Who knows, perhaps this will lead to new career ideas and opportunities!
Please use the following link to access the assessment: www.careeronestop.org/toolkit/careers/interest-assessment.aspx Once you have finished the assessment please take a look at the suggested careers. Write down a few of the suggestions that you find interesting and the information the site provides. Write about what you think of the suggestions, were they accurate? After a lengthy section on coding and app development, our class will begin taking a look at all the different career pathways out there. Every student has unique interests and this class is the perfect opportunity to explore those interests. Over the course of this section we will be looking in depth at different careers, aptitudes, and the steps required to meet those goals.
As an introduction to this section I would like for you to write two paragraphs about what career or careers you might be interested in, and to also tell me what you know about it! -What does a day look like in that career -What is required to get into that career -What about it interests you? Now that we have completed the App Lab Tutorial in Code.org it is time to put what we learned to the test. Our goal will be to create our own mobile app. There are two options to create, a choose your own adventure story app, or a personality quiz app.
The App. must: 1.Be Original 2. Display the App. name in a title page at the start of the app 3. Be school appropriate 4. Display good digital citizenship 5. Be done in class 6. Have a storyboard or outline 7. Be at least 10 screens long. The outline or storyboard may be hand drawn or done on a computer in class. The storyboard or outline will be used for a rough planning of the actual app that will be created on code.org. |
